Week 2 Reading Anthology Notes

The Turtle and the Geese by Ellen C. Babbitt: A Turtle became friends with two geese. The Geese invited him to travel with them to their home, but he did not any wings. They told him they could take him with them if he promised to keep his mouth shut. They brought a stick and told the Turtle to hold on with his mouth and took off flying. The village children mocked the flying Turtle and called it ridiculous, causing him to talk back and let go of the stick and die. The Geese flew on and said that he lost his life because he could not keep his mouth shut.

The Cunning Crane and the Crab by W.H.D Rouse: A Crane promised a group of Fish that he would carry them from a small, hot pool to a beautiful lake. He even took one of the fish to see the lake first! However, when they trusted him to take them to the lake, the Crane ate each and every fish one by one. A Crab then wanted to go to the lake as well, but he was smarter than the Fish. He held onto the neck of the Crane instead of being carried in his beak. When the Crab saw that the Crane was not going to take him to the lake, he pinched the Crane's neck and made him take him to the lake. He then cut the Crane's neck off and lived happily ever after in the lake.

A fairy who hated the Goblins sent her flying horse down to save the men. The men who did not believe the captain were eaten up.
